Kirk Brae v Broomhall Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 12 Jun 2010 at 13:00
Broomhall Cricket Club Won 7 wickets
Match report
After winning the toss Broomhall decided to have a bowl due mainly to the prosepct of a green deck and overcast conditions. The fact that one top order was still heavily under the influence ftom the previous nights activities also helped in the decision making process. A very strong spell from opening bowlers Doherty and Hoefling set up great foundations, restricting the home side to 25 for 2 after. Opening batsman Colvin was dismissed to an sublime catch in gully by Glasgow which left everyone in a state of amazement. Smith then came on as first change and continued to keep the home team struggling for run with some well guided swing bowling. Smith finished on 2 for 30 and was unlucky not to have taken three wickets had it not been a dolly drop at mid on by skipper Grant. Thereafter Kirkbrae managed to keep the runs coming with solid batting performances from Sangster (64) and Saleem (53) which enabled the home team achieve a respectable score of 198 for 9 after the 50 overs. Broomhall therefore had a target run rate of close to 4 an over when thier innings started. Broomhall opened with Grant(R) and Seath who was welcomed back to the club after a 5 year absence. Some tight bowling from Saleem and Smith meant that runs were difficult to find and it wasnt long before Grant(R) was caught in front LBW with the score on only 24. Greenall then came to the crease but unfortunatley his stay was short lived as he fell to a good yourker from Saleem (or was it due to the copious pints from Friday). It was then the turn of Grant(J) to push the run rate along supported by Seath. A partnership of 136 followed before Grant fell for 109 with only 32 needed to secure victory. Hoefling came in and after a few interesting shots early in his innings he settled into a rytham and he and Seath managed to see Broomhall over the finsihing line. Seath carried his bat well throughout the 40 overs and finished on a score of 21. All in all this strong victory away from home and will certianly provide valuable points towards the goal of promotion to Div 3.
