Edinburgh South 2nd XI v Broomhall Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 03 Jul 2010 at 13:00
Broomhall Cricket Club Lost by 37 runs
Match report
A slightly changed side saw Broomhall travel to Edinburgh South to take on the title contenders. Broomhall won the toss and put Edi South into bat. A tight opening bowling performance saw Edi restricted to 81 for 2 at drinks in the 23 over. They then started to score some steady runs with the loss of another 4 wickets before ending on 198 for 6 off their 45 overs. Charlie Stoddart only giving away 12 runs from his 9 overs. Still Edi South had scored probably about 35 runs more than we should have let them.
An alfresco tea came and went and Charlie and Michael Goodchild took to the field knowing there was work to be done. They opened well getting to 18 runs at the end of the second - however Charlie had edged and was caught behind, he walked before the umpire had time to raise his finger. Mat Howis came in and hung around for a few overs before being bowled. Come on Ahmed stay with Goodie! 8 overs and 25 runs later Ahmed was also bowled, Goodie was hanging in there. Phil Ward joined Goodie and the pair put on 53 before Phil went for 19. Young Ali Gudgin came in and pushed the score up to 122 by the 28 over. Another nail biting affair from the side lines, Goodie's wicket then fell on 55, could the tail wag? Simon Lindsay lasted a few balls before losing his middle stump. Subhaan Ali came in and held the innings together taking few chances but throwing in the occasional swipe just to keep those watching awake! Paul Gudgin also joined the battle scoring a quick fire 8 before swishing, allowing himself to be caught behind. Calum Hawthorne tried his best with the bat before being out LBW. Dave Goodchild came in and with Subhaan pushed the score up to 161 before Subhaan was caught. A little better batting from the middle order and we could have done it!
