Heriots 3 v Broomhall Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 14 May 2011 at 13:00
Broomhall Cricket Club Won By 34 Runs
Match report
A nice day in Edinburgh and a beautiful pitch was a good omen as we arrived at herriots ground. After losing the toss herriots chose to field, Jack Hynd and Ravy Mandal had the honours of opening the batting. After a steady start of 3 an over things were looking rather comfortable. When it came to over 12 Ravy hit a cannonball shot to covers which was well caught. Scott Lucas his first game for broomhall entered the game and contributed with a 46 run partnership until he was unfortunately caught in the 24th over. Jack Hynd batting strong was still there not giving anything away. Charlie Stoddard walked to the crease for a short innings due to a superb yorker from the herriots bowling side. Ali Gudgin doing his Nadal like entrance had a 64 run partnership with Jack Hynd until jack was caught and bowled. Gudgin was the only person to score a 6 due to a rather helping hand from the fielding side. Broomhall carried on batting well coming to a total of 192. A very well hit 70 from Jack Hynd and a quick 36 from Alistair Gudgin proved the main runs for the side.
After a fantastic spread Broomhall headed out keen as mustard waiting for the herriots to join the field. Broomhalled opened the innings with Skipper Mat Howis and Brett Lee like Ali Gudgin for a quick 4 over spell each keeping the runs down. Then 1st change bowler Ravy Mandal entered the battle with his superb pace bowling taking a wicket in his second over taking the top of off stump.
Ravy struck again in the 15th over taking the other opener out of the game with a ball that cut in superbly. Then another wicket fell from supreme spinner Mark Mcelny who had been keeping the bowling tight from the other end with a thick edge in the air which was caught by Mat Howis. when it came to the drinks break broomhall had kept it tight keeping herriots to 80 runs for 4 wickets. Charlie Stoddard then took a wicket hitting off the batsmans pads on to the stumps.
Then Mark Mcelny took another wicket with a plum LBW shout. Herriots where 122 for 7 off 31 overs but batsman 4 s.aruitagan was begining to cause trouble for Broomhall. Ali Gudgin contributing yet again with his second spell taking three wickets. Broomhall had took another wicket with the batsman running themselves out which put them 158 for 9 then skipper Mat Howis comes back on and takes the best wicket of the generation to win the game. herriots finished 160 all out.
