Broomhall Cricket Club 3rd XI v Preston Village on Sat 14 May 2011 at 13:00
Broomhall Cricket Club Lost By 46 runs

Match report The Thirds travelled to Inverleith for their home game v the Village People on Saturday, last minute call offs and other pressing commitments meant that we started the game with 10 and finished with 9.

Stand in skipper, shuffler won the toss and elected to field. The Village People made steady progress in the early part of their innings. The sustained probing bowling attack supplied by Paul Gudgin and Jamie ( Flash ) Pryce failed to bring the rewards they were due. Call offs meant that bowling options were limited which resulted in Shuffler and Miller taking on the mantle. Shuffler managed to make the opening break through when he out smarted the opening bat with a flighted ball which uprooted the middle stump. Miller then took the wicket of a dangerous bat and wickets then fell regularly as the Thirds used a total of 9 bowlers including Goody, who bowled remarkably well to finish with 2 for 8 ish.

The Village People were bowled out for 132 which gave the Thirds full bowling points, a truly remarkable effort from the boys.

After a makeshift tea, which seemed to be enjoyed by all, the Thirds commenced their assault on the target set. Shuffler decided that his efforts with the ball meant that boundaries only were order of the day and began launching boundary shots at fairly regular intervals. Man of the Match Miller strode to the middle and played some cracking shots to quickly race to 21( keep your hands off 2nds ) but the dangerous Joseph eventually teased him out. Gudgin decided that he was not prepared to spend all afternoon running quick runs and his course of action succeeded as he succesfully ran out Flash who was looking solid and hitting some lovely shots. Goody came in scratched around was given out to a debateable decision, refused to leave the square and the UN mediation Task Force ensured he got his way and he remained at the crease with the decision reversed. Goody then decided to then get himself out when he failed to defend a straight one. Unfortunately the lack of experience within the squad showed when three of the team who were playing their first ever game of cricket quickly came and went and we were skittled for 86 ish !

The Village People celebrated a hard fought victory and the Thirds licked their wounds. A great effort from all who attended.
