Broomhall Cricket Club 3rd XI v Largo 4 on Sat 28 May 2011 at 13:00
Broomhall Cricket Club Lost By 75 runs
Match report
Broomhall 3rds welcomed Largo 4ths to their away homeground at Roseburn under the shadows of the imposing Murrayfield Rugby stadium.Strong winds and frequent showers meant both teams were in for a blustery cold time of it. A mixture of experience and youth was fielded by both teams with 5 U13s and 1 U16 in the Broomhall side. Broomhall opted to field and opened the bowling with Paul Gudgin and Calum Hawthorne, conceding only 16 runs off their first 10 overs combined. A change of bowling saw Chris Lao and Peter Pryce (both U13) bowl another tight spell and Peter taking the wicket of William Naismith. Phil Ward then came on to bowl and managed to keep the tight bowling going, giving away 12 runs for 2 wickets. Blair and Euan McKenzie, Ewan MacPhail, Gordon Couch and Daniel Woodhall were also given a few overs each before the openers returned enabling Paul Gudgin to break his 3rds duck by taking his first wicket. Largo batted well, with Dale Caton notching up a good 56 before losing his wicket and finishing on 175 for 5. Only 9 byes were given away by the very experianced 3rds keeper Paul(the back) Stringer, ably assisted by his 18 hour girdle!
Broomhall opening batsmen eventually left the changing room when all the lads had finished the wonderful spread (just one more piece of cake skipper please!), Broomhall fell short by 75 with a couple of mentions going out to Blair McKenzie for hitting double figures in his first senior match ending on 10 and Paul Gudgin top scoring on 28. A good effort that hopefully bodes well for the future for us all.
