Kismet (FCU) v Broomhall Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 26 May 2013 at 1200
Broomhall Cricket Club Lost BY 1 WICKET

Match report On a warm, overcast day, a mixed Broomhall team travelled to Dalgety Bay to face Kismet on the unpredictable bounce of the Dalgety Bay astro. Broomhall won the toss and chose to bat first.

Broomhall got off to a shaky start losing Ward and Miller very early on to one of Broomhalls own, I Ahmed. R Orr was the next to fall, getting caught in the off side as he tried to push the score along. Seath looked nervous at the other end as he tried to steady the ship. Luckily the heroics of temporary skipper A Gudgin were on hand put some runs on the board, and after a few classy boundaries from both Gudgin and Seath the score started to look more promising.

Seath eventually fell for 25 after he was comprehensively bowled by Saleem. Jamie Pryce was the next to come into bat, full of confidence after his recent half century, and after trying his very best to get himself out early on, he started to push the run rate along with a few cracking sixes out the middle of the bat. Gudgin’s innings ended after getting caught behind off of a lovely delivery. J Pryce and M Warren pushed the score on further and Broomhall finished on 143 for 5 off of the 30 overs.

A quick change over and Broomhall went out to field. It was quite obvious from the start that Kismet were out to attack the Broomhall bowling. P Pryce and L O’Neill opened the bowling and both picked up a wicket each. Kismet were not wasting any time and they had made it to 72 for 3 off of just 10 overs. Luckily the heroics of temporary skipper A Gudgin were on hand to pick up 2 wickets, including the wicket of danger man I Ahmed. M Warren was bowling very well down at the other end and was unlucky not to pick up two or three more wickets.

Kismet only needed 21 runs to win with 4 wickets remaining; it was never going to be easy for Broomhall. After a couple of loose balls, Seath started to find his line and length and got the vital wicket of the Kismet skipper in his second over. Seath picked up another wicket after an outstanding catch by P Ward in mid wicket. Kismet needed 5 runs to win with just 1 wicket remaining. Sadly Broomhall couldn’t quite make that final breakthrough and Kismet were able to knock off the remaining runs in what was a very nervy finish.
