Broomhall Cricket Club 1st XI v Heriots 3s on Sat 26 May 2018 at 13:00
Broomhall Cricket Club Won By 4 wickets
Match report
Excellent and exciting victory for the 1st XI yesterday, moving up to 2nd in the table after beating Heriot 3's by 4 wickets with only 3 balls remaining in the match.
Heriots won the toss and chose to bat first. Another hot, sunny day at The Cairns and a fast outfield. It looked ideal batting conditions and was always going to be a tough 40 overs in the field. Wickets were hard to come by but tight bowling restricted Heriots to 85-2 at drinks but with wickets left in hand they managed to push on to finish on 218-4 from the 40 overs.
After another cracking Broomhall spread, Chris and Danny went out to open the batting and got off to the worst possible start as Dan was run out before even facing a ball. This brought Scott to the crease who went on to score a quick fire 63 in a 100 run partnership with the Hoff before getting caught in the deep. Chris went soon after getting trapped LBW for 37. Gary and Neil steadied the ship but as they took the time to play themselves in, Broomhall started to fall below the run rate.
But just as it looked as if Heriots were starting to gain the upper hand, both Gary and Neil started finding the boundaries including a belter of a six through the open clubhouse door from Gary. Gary was first to go as he was bowled for 34 and Neil went soon after for 28 leaving a very tense final 10 overs.
With 7 needed to win from the last over it was down to skipper Liam to finish the job off, launching a six into the sheds from the first ball of the over to level the scores before wrapping it up with a four with only 3 balls remaining.
A huge win to leapfrog Heriots into 2nd place in the table.
